Don't give up!

Running gets harder as the weather gets colder. Many people think this is a reason to stop running. Don't. Fall running is one of the greater experiences life has to offer. The leaves are golden, the sun so rare you feel blessed to bask in it for a few moments before it leaves for Africa. Don't stop running now, but make a few select improvements of seasonal running gear. A hat and gloves. Perhaps a wool layer. I run currently run in an icebreaker shirt I bought last year. I love it. I'm not buying anything new this year, with the exception of the new running shoes I got for my birthday. Quality lasts.

This week, try for 1500 meters. You can do it. We're getting closer to running a 3 k. Within 2 weeks, you'll be there.

  1. My friends keep freaking out whenever they see me buying more running gear, but if you want it to last, you have to spend a decent amount of money. That, and I'm running in weather that's -25 on a regular basis. I need lots of gear!

  2. I am in the opposite situation, just emerging from a chilly Australian winter (though nothing on the Swedish or Canadian ones!), and heading straight for a blistering summer. My next running buy will be sunscreen.. and an alarm so I can run early before it gets too hot.

  3. what shoes did you get emi? I need new ones and I am trying to decide between adidas (whom I love) and nike (who would carry my little nike+ thingy for me) any thoughts?

  4. I got Mizunos. I love them. But I bought them mainly because my feet are so wide. GO with shoes you love Zoe, ou can always attach the nike thing in other ways!

  5. This is like a benetton ad of runners, all battling different weather! :-)
I am going out for a run in the rain, allthough it will completely frizz up my hair..

  6. yep ok thanks. I currently have my nike thing taped to my laces haha. And, down here in melbourne, its so warm I have to run when the sun is going down....I find it harder to run in hot weather than cold!

  7. I finally cracked and bought a headband and some wind-resistant warm tights from the Running Room. Apparently they are good 'till -20°C. I love them. Expensive, but I figure it's an investment in continuing the habit.

Though I'll eventually need a jacket... and hat... and gloves... sigh...

p.s. Emi, have you considered merging the two running blogs? I like reading the posts here too, though I'm technically not a rookie (though just barely).

  8. 1500 m!!!!! yey! I still have to figure out the whole nike+ thing though. I get my runs into the ipod, but have to get them to my profile on the computer.

  9. hellena! you just plug your ipod to your computer. In Itunes, check your iPod, then click the "go to Nike+ now"

  10. Ok - did that, and I´ve clicked to participate in the challenge. I can see the challenge in my profile, but my runs don´t show in the challenge. I´m still "waiting for runs" according to nike+...
