Last week!

Everyone run 5 k.
Then we're done over here and you can join us over at Run with E.
Are you all into running now? Yes? No? Does it still suck or are you into it? Did your bodies change?

Curious greetings

  1. Weellll....I haven't run at all for the past 3 weeks. Sickness+assignments+anxiety that I plan on getting professional help with are not conducive to running. I'll be starting up again on the 10th of December, and I'm planning on doing a 5k run in February in my city. I'll see you at runwithe in a little while.

  2. This program was just too fast for me. I've been running 3 times a week consistently since August but I'm just not ready for 5k yet.

  3. Don't stress! You're still welcome over to run with e. Take your time and get your running in. You'll get there if you keep it up!

  4. I love it, although I have gone slightly off the boil since it has become so hot here (it is no longer possible to run after work as it is way over 30 degrees C most days). The first 1.5km still is a struggle, but after that, it is like magic. Who would have thought?

The body does not really look any different, but it feels stronger, and I think the muscles above my knees are more pronounced.

I still love the nike+ ipod thing, but I must have reached the limits of my ability for now.. Lance no longer tells me stuff!

  5. It was definitely too hard too fast for me and now I am kinda back at square 1 since injury. But at least I know now that I CAN run and its just a matter of sticking with it.

  6. I haven't mastered the 5k yet either - mainly dure to a biig old cold that's keeping me from excercise in general. What has happened thoguh is that I've stopped hating running. I can't say I love it yet, but I really don't mind doing it. I'm excited to go for the full 5k as soon as this cold has worked it way through my system and even more excited to start working on speed. A topic on which I could really use some tips: how do I start running faster? Right now I'm just kind of sticking to a pace I know I can keep up during the whole run, probably playing it a little safe.

  7. The key to running faster is interval training. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interval_training

Hill running is also great for building strength.

  8. I am almost at 5 k and am hoping to hit it this week :). This has been great in keeping me motivated and has been really lovely. I've been combining it with a program for people with PCOS and have lost over a stone since we've begun (and love the steady progress!). Its nice to finally have a combination that is actually working for positive change rather than spinning my wheels. Interval training has really helped me be able to achieve longer times on my feet for my longer run every week - otherwise I would still be hitting that 3 km wall! Thanks for all the help and encouragement Emi!

  9. Yes! I'm into running now. It's a challenge to get the runs into my schedule of work (graveyard shift) and kids activities. The kids have moved from the pool near the track to the pool in a park-but now it's pitch black (nighttime) and too dark and dangerous to run there. The nice thing is I live near a marina and the beach so I run there during the day but its still a challenge since i can't multitask it. I live on a hill and try to run the hills around me as well.

It usually sucks the 1st k of a run, but then the endorphins usually kick in. i love listening to podcasts and my music...i'm just getting to the point where i can run and take in the environment and not be aware of every extra ounce of flesh i'm lugging around and the aches etc. i know that i'm making progress and it's an interesting journey to see how far i will go. the challenges here have kept it interesting and i love my nike+! i'm reading the runner's magazines avidly and wondering if i would ever be able to run a marathon.
I've gotten to the point that I'm running 5K runs now (time permitting). my first (and only) "race" so far has been our local "Turkey Trot" (held all around the US) on Thanksgiving day. It was a 3 mile run which I extended to 5K by running beyond the finish line...not a very glamorous name for my 1st run, but you had just started the 5k challenge to I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone!

I have lost 17 pounds...strictly from the running my pants are very baggy and my legs are very toned although still with some cellulite (gross,i know) i haven't dieted as such, but i notice that i want to eat healthier and am more aware of the extra weight i have to carry when i run if i am overweight so it makes me eat smaller portions when i think about it. .AND i have discovered Clif bars-i love them and they really help my energy level and satisfy my sweet tooth. i have never been a granola bar type girl but i love these bars. They are not low calorie but are very filling and fibrous and really work for me.

I have learned little tricks to psyche myself up for running when I don't want to. I know the longer I go without running the more I will dread it, and the harder it will be for me physically. So I change the route, or start with a slight downhill incline, etc.. anything to keep me going. I think of the old Nike slogan "Just do it".

I am doing this for health reasons. Physical and Mental. I am 51 years old and I don't want to get to the point of no return where I'm too out of shape to move around.

I never ever would have done this without your inspiration Emi-thanks so much it has made a huge difference in my life!
